SHOULD NATALIE PORTMAN TAKE CREDIT FOR HER OSCAR PERFORMANCE?!

In Black Swan, Natalie Portman played a ballerina faced with a career role as the Swan Princess. Throughout the movie, she possesses all the qualities of the White Swan but struggles to find her Black Swan within until he finds herself being encompassed by the role that soon takes her life.

Natalie Portman is very believable for her role not only for her acting skills but for her ballerina dancing skills as well. But should she take all the credit? Natalie's dancing double Sarah Lane is speaking out because she feels she hasn't received enough credit in this highly acclaimed film.

Natalie's dancing partner/baby daddy/fiance Benjamin Millepied comes to her defense by saying that Natalie did 85% of the dancing. But dancing double and American Ballet Soloist Sarah Lane claims Natalie was only in 5% of the body shots. She says, "It is demeaning to the profession and not just to me. I've been doing this for 22 years...Can you become a concert pianist in a year and a half, even if you're a movie star?" As for Natalie's ballet dancing skills, Sarah says, "I mean, from a professional dancer's standpoint, she doesn't look like a professional ballet dancer at all, and she can't dance in pointe shoes. And she can't move her body; she's very stiff."

What caused Sarah Lane to speak up on this matter was her lack of recognition in Black Swan. For the credits, she wasn't even mentioned as Natalie's Dancing Double, only as an Extra! And what makes matters worse is that she wasn't even mentioned in Natalie's acceptance speech or during awards season. Though Portman never tried taking credit for all her dance scenes, she did admit to using a dance double for the complicated turn sequences.

Whatever the situation is, was Natalie Portman wrong for not mentioning Sarah Lane in any of her many acceptance speeches for this film? Should Sarah have been given more credit for her role in Black Swan, other than Extra? Hmm, it's a complicating situation...

JOHN GALLIANO'S RACIST REMARK

John Galliano is the fashion director and head designer of DIOR since 1996. But last Thursday, he made headlines in a different matter...

While intoxicated two times over the legal limit, he verbally attacked a couple at a Parisian bar. Some remarks he used included: “I love Hitler” and “People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f****** gassed.” What makes it even worse is that there was actual footage to this incident that has been removed from websites! (hmmm interesting...)

Dior suspended Galliano hours after the incident occurred, then is in the process of firing the designer. Though he will not take part in Dior's upcoming fashion show, his own fashion show next Friday has yet to be cancelled.

Fellow designer Giorgio Armani said he felt truly sorry for Galliano and warns him to be more cautious about what he says in public and how he portrays himself.

Natalie Portman, face of Miss Dior Cherie perfume, states: "I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way."

At the Oscars this past Sunday, Nicole Kidman and Sharon Stone wore dresses by Dior...

The fact that such a talented man who is such an icon in the fashion industry can have so much hatred toward Jews is abhorrent. The fashion industry is universal, made up of people from so many racial backgrounds. Even though John Galliano was intoxicated, we all know the real truth behind his true feelings, and apparently they were racist ones. Anti-Semitic rants in Paris are punishable up to 6 months in prison. Good luck getting yourself out of this one Galliano! This will haunt you forever!!!

OSCAR 2011 FASHION!

The biggest awards ceremony took place last night at the Nokia Theatre. The big night brought on the A-game of many celebrities, most notably the women! A trend for the night that is making it's appearance into Spring is the color Red (and it's different shades) along with the one-shoulder dress trend that is more defined. This Spring season calls for nothing but FLAIR.

Congratulations to Natalie Portman for winning the Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal in "Black Swan." She truly deserved it and it's so nice seeing her experience so many great things simultaneously: recognition for her craft, pregnancy, and love with her fiance.

Hands down best dressed of the night right when I saw her was Mila Kunis. She wore a lilac colored Elie Saab gown that was so dreamy. The detailing of lace in the low cut chest area was not overtly provocative because of the flowy detail of the entire look. She looked so beautiful and her hair and make-up was perfect with this dress, nothing overpowering, but it made a strong statement together that definitely got her noticed.

But what really had people buzzing were the many outfit changes of co-host Anne Hathaway during the 3 hour broadcast. Was it really necessary to change that many times? Regardless, she looked amazing in all of them and it was refreshing to see new faces hosting the biggest awards ceremony. Seeing Anne on-stage with her confidence emitted a genuine feeling of gratitude for the opportunity she was given. GO GIRL!

SAG Awards, More Like UP-Lifting Awards

Yesterday on TNT was the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. These awards are more serious than the Golden Globes, and help determine who would win an Oscar for the upcoming Academy Awards in late February. Many of the winners in the movie category also won their categories for the Golden Globes, so they are most likely going to win an Oscar as well. For a complete list of winners, check out:

http://http://www.sagawards.org/media-pr/press-releases/screen-actors-guild-honors-outstanding-film-and-television-performances-17th

For motion pictures, came big wins for "The King's Speech" and for the individual acting categories, winners that came out on top were Colin Firth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, and Melissa Leo.

"THEATRICAL MOTION PICTURES

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
COLIN FIRTH / King George VI - "THE KING’S SPEECH" (The Weinstein Company)

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
NATALIE PORTMAN / Nina Sayers – “BLACK SWAN” (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
CHRISTIAN BALE / Dicky Eklund – “THE FIGHTER” (Paramount Pictures and Relativity Media)

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
MELISSA LEO / Alice Ward – “THE FIGHTER” (Paramount Pictures and Relativity Media)"

As another awards ceremony ends, how can we forget about the fashion on the red carpet. Yesterday, there was a trend for hot pink (my fashion premonition has come true), along with an emerging trend I see that will appear more which are dresses with print.

Hailee Steinfeld wore a Prada striped dress. I felt it was fresh and very age appropriate for her. The dress was flattering on her young figure with a fitted form on the top and a mermaid flaring at the bottom.
Jennifer Lawrence wore a hot pink number by Oscar de la Renta. This color is so beautiful on any skin type, and the design of the dress was beautiful except the competing black belt with the shoulder straps. Hot pink is the color of now and the future my friends.
Mila Kunis and her Alexander McQueen gown turned heads. The jewel tones, and the floral print on the bottom of the gown looked like a breath of fresh air. She truly looked like a goddess floating on the carpet.
Best dressed for me of the night was newly single Eva Longoria. Despite her rough past couple of months, she looks as stunning as ever in this Georges Hobeika Spring 2011 Couture gown. This low cut dress has a beautiful creme color that draped beautifully on the bottom. The dress was also backless! Very sexy, yet very appropriate for her, go get it Eva!!!

The SAG Awards was a very positive night where actors came together and truly appreciated their craft along with other actors that work in the business-very UPLIFTING, instead of SAG-gy don't you think?

Celebrity Trend: Getting Pregnant Before Marriage!

This is how it's supposed to be: first comes love...then comes marriage...then comes a baby in a baby carriage!!! But in Hollywood, that's a different story. This is how things roll in Hollywood: first comes love? (supposedly)...then comes baby...then comes...hmmm let's see: maybe marriage, NOT likely though, OR break-up.
A lot of celebrity women have the independence and bank account to be a single mother, and that sure is a likely scene in Hollywood. They see someone they want to have a child with, and if that relationship lasts then great! but it's no biggy if they break-up because...they can find another one.
Though it's great to see many independent women not need a man in their lives, I'm also wondering what other message this sends. Where has the sanctity of marriage go? When did this evolution of a woman's independence change suddenly? How has it become so acceptable to not marry the man who's also the baby daddy?
I have seen in this new age that having a baby when your young (Teen Mom) or when you're not married is becoming somewhat glamorized in the media. Not only are there special shows about young moms, but so many of them! MTV now has Teen Mom 2 and related shows such as 16 And Pregnant. What is the real meaning behind these reality shows? Isn't it supposed to be a warning amongst viewers that what we watch is NOT a life we should want to bestow upon ourselves? Then there's Hollywood that has beautiful women pregnant: Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Ritchie, and Halle Berry. These women are successful and independent. Some are still with their baby daddy and others aren't.
Call me old fashioned but I'm all for love, marriage, and then baby. At least I know if this schedule didn't work out, I'll still be okay because it has become so acceptable ;)

Black Swan: A Review

Black Swan : so much hype centered around this movie. Not only does it have 2 of Hollywood's Hottest Actresses, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, but this movie has garnered much critical acclaim, can anyone say 4 Golden Globe Nominations?!
I can see the commotion this movie has caused. It was seriously the craziest movie I've seen in a while. This dark thriller really captivates the audience and leaves them in a stupor. So what's the deal with the Black Swan and the White Swan?
Black Swan is about ballerina Nina (Portman) who gets the coveted role of Swan Queen, in which she would have to play both the White Swan and Black Swan. The White Swan is the perfect role for Nina: innocent and delicate, and the role of Black Swan is the complete opposite: dangerous and seductive. Throughout the movie, Nina struggles to find the right balance between two roles. She sees the dark side of dancing with fellow ballerina star Beth (Ryder) who is suddenly replaced within the dance company and tries to kill herself.
Nina has a few twisted relationships in the movie. Her mother, once a ballerina, is very protective of Nina and tries to protect her from the harsh world of dancing and the cruelties of the real world. With Nina's immersion of the role, she finds herself tired of her mother's overbearing behavior, and wants to break free from her sheltered life. Nina becomes attracted to fellow ballerina Lily (Kunis) who embodies everything she's not: mysterious and a free spirit, qualities of the Black Swan. She believes that Lily is trying to get her role of Swan Queen, and envisions her as a threat, yet also fantacizes about her. The head of the dance company Thomas, tries to bring out the seductress of Nina by not only providing harsh criticism, but touching her sexually in order for Nina to open herself up to the role.
Nina is used to being a disciplined dancer and struggles to portray her role as the Swan Queen perfectly. This comes to her demise, as she find two sides of her competing: the innocent White Swan, and the evil Black Swan. Nina becomes her own worst enemy trying to embody this role to the best of her ability, something she wasn't able to handle. By the end of the movie, the Black Swan overpowers the White Swan, which leads to her death. Nina ended up playing out the story of the Swan Princess, literally where the Black and White Swan compete, and unto which the Swan Queen kills herself.
I would recommend this movie because of it's great complexity and dark story. There's not a lot of movies that can captivate you throughout the entire film and make you feel so involved in the plot. This movie is full of twists and turns, that you never know what to expect, and that's what I love about this movie. It feels so real, and it leaves you at the edge of your seat. Don't be fooled by the title, this movie brings it!

Beauty & Style
Set to appear next in a romantic comedy with Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman received nominations from the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globe awards for her performance in Black Swan.
