On Friday, Katie Holmes files for divorce from her husband of 5 years, Tom Cruise. Not only did she file for divorce, but Katie is also asking for sole legal custody and "primary residential custody" of their 6 year old daughter, Suri.
I was definitely shocked when I heard this news because it seems so unexpected! From the outside looking in, it seemed like they were so happy together! Just last week, Tom Cruise told PEOPLE that the perfect day is "the time with Kate". Even in this past month's issue of Playboy he said, "She is an extraordinary person, and if you spent five minutes with her, you'd see it. Everything she does, she does with this beautiful creativity. She's funny and charming, and when she walks into the room, I just feel better ... What we have is very special." This is kind of sad because Katie filed just a few days short of Tom Cruise's 50th birthday.
Dating back about 5 years ago, the couple had a whirlwind of a romance. Imagine Katie Holmes, marrying the man of her dreams, Literally! The both got engaged after two months of dating. I mean who could forget Tom Cruise's jumping on the couch fiasco on Oprah? Then their beautiful daughter Suri who is the combination of the best physical characteristics of her parents. It seemed like a possible Hollywood fairytale to all girls wanting to marry their man of their dreams. Mine ranges from Sky Blu, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer, Paul Walker, Channing Tatum, William Levy...the list goes on and on.
The primary reason for this divorce filing was Suri into which Katie is seeking primary custody. This will probably get very ugly especially because Tom Cruise has outwardly professed how he loves spending time with her and the family. "It's so much fun. Suri is just so lovely and so much fun to be with. On weekends we do arts and crafts. With Kate, there's always dancing and singing and all that kind of stuff in the house. Now Suri has friends all over the place, so wherever we go, they're also there. They all love Suri. Every day, Kate and I go: How did we do?" Kate and I look at each other like: Well, we had a good day today. We all work at it."
As to what the reasoning is regarding this shocking divorce strongly leads to the Church of Scientology, the religion that Tom Cruise is heavily involved in. Suri is about the age where she would become more heavily involved in the church, in which Katie does not want. Ever since she's been with Tom, he's hired her own personal security entourage to follow her every move. Whatever the real reason seems to be, new stories keep on appearing everyday about new details. Sooner of later, I feel some ugly truth will come out about the relationship along with Scientology secrets.
Holmes and Suri had already moved to a new place in New York City near Suri's gymnastics studio. Since Katie signed a prenup, I wonder how much of Tom's fortune and property she would be getting out of it. Reading about all of this has definitely been interesting and a bit bizarre, especially with the news of how this is Tom Cruise's third divorce, with all three of his ex-wives filing papers at the age of 33! I wonder if there's so strange association with the number 3 or 33. I guess keep awaiting the details on this story!
